Green Ribbon Party/Ribbon Ball/ Stužková in Slovakia is a bit different from prom that I had experienced in the US. The main goal is however the same and it's that students of one class gather and prepare an unforgettable night in their last year of high school. Night about remembering the old times, having fun and enjoying time spent together.
"Prom" in Slovakia is a fancy celebration organized by students who invite their teachers and parents. Festive dinner, hundreds of cakes, decorations and flowers may evoke a small wedding haha :)
During the formal part each student receives a green ribbon with his name as a symbol of youth and hope that should help pass "the exam of maturity" or school leaving exam called Maturita in May.
Afterwards, there is a funny program prepared and dancing all night until early hours of the next morning.
How does prom work in your country? :)
**Noc plná emócií, smútku aj radosti. Aj taká je stužková. Ale je to hlavne nezabudnuteľná noc plná úžasných zážitkov, pretancovaných kilometrov a skvelej spoločnosti. Tí, ktorí ste ju už mali, viete o čom hovorím. Vy, ktorých vás ešte len čaká, si ju užite naplno, pretože táto možnosť je len raz za život. :)
